Update 10/31/2016

Parents,

The students do have homework tonight on pg.219 in their math book. They will have to work it around all the Treat-or-Treating. We are still working on division and feel it is important for students to get practice on it. If they know their multiplication facts, the homework tonight should be completed somewhat quickly. For example, a problem on tonight's homework could look like: 1,600/4. They can ignore the zeros for a second and figure out how many multiples of 4 go into 16 or 4 X ___ = 16. When they figure out that it is 4 then they need to add the zeros to it to get 400. They should check it mentally or on paper, as well. 4 X 400 = 16 + 2 zeros is equal to the original dividend of 1,600. So it checks.

We will continue the week looking at division using compatible numbers and using the distributive property.

In reading, we are reviewing text features, new vocabulary, and comprehension with the story called, Antarctic Journal, which is written as a daily journal on the author's experience in Antarctica.

In writing, students will be introduced to persuasive writing later in the week. They are exploring adjectives and were introduced to the November Nifty-Fifty-Thrifty words.

In social studies, students will be working on a Native American research project.

Reminder: If you have not confirmed your child's conference time for this Friday, please let us know if you are able to come during your scheduled time. The times were posted on this blog last Friday so you can check your child's time there.

Thank you and have a great week.
