Update 10/6/2016

Parents,

We started the first lesson in chapter 3 and the homework is pg.149 on multiplying by tens. They can solve the problems in one of two ways. Lets say the problem is 30 times 16. They can break apart 16 into 10 and 6 using the distributive property and multiply 30 times 10 to get 300. Then multiply 30 times 6 to get 180. Add them together and you get 480. This is also the expanded form method. They can also use the partial product strategy. They will ignore the zero in 30 and multiply 3 times 10 which is 30. Then they multiply 3 times 6 to get 18. They add 30 and 18 to get 48. Then add the zero to get 480. I hope this helps. If not, please watch the video on think central or review the lesson in the previous pages before their homework page in their math book.

Have a good night.
