Parents,
The students have math homework on pg. 103 in their math book. It is multiplying using the partial product strategy which is basically expanded form only they are lining up the numbers vertically by looking at each place value. For example, lets say the problem is 563 times 4. They would multiply 4 times 5 in the hundreds place which is 4 times 500 to get 2,000. They write that down. Then they multiply 4 by the 6 in the tens place which is 4 times 60 to get 240. They write that down and line it up underneath the 2,000. Then they multiply 4 by the ones place which is 4 times 3 to get 12. They write 12 underneath the 240 and add all three numbers together to get 2,252. I hope this helps and not confuses you. You can look at the process on www-k6.thinkcentral.com with your child's log in and watch the video. You can also look at pg. 99 and 100 in their math book to see how the process works, as well.
No school tomorrow due to a teacher workday.
Have a good night.
