5/15/2017

Hi Parents!

We hope you all had a great weekend!

Tonight in math, students are completing the Chapter 9 Practice Test.  We worked on and went over the even-numbered problems in class, but students should finish the odd-numbered problems for homework.  Students who finished the homework in class were asked to take their books home and go over the assignment with a parent (or brother, sister, etc.) to make sure that they are proficient with all the concepts. Our test will be tomorrow!

In Language Arts, students are writing and publishing their Zombie PBL report.  Many groups have also moved on to the "create" phase, where they will create a project based on the research and report they've been working on for the past several weeks.  Students are also working on a novel study and are expected to be keeping up on the reading and assignments during the time given in class.  Please check in with your child to find out how his/her reading assignments are coming along.

Finally, in Science, students are studying the reasons for day and night and for Earth's seasons.  There are some resources that students can explore on our blog if they are interested.

Upcoming Events:

5/15-5/19: Book Fair BOGO
5/17: School Board Meeting, 10:00am
5/17: Volunteer Tea, 2:00pm-3:00pm
5/25: School Board Elections, 7:30-4:00pm
5/29: Memorial Day Holiday – no school
6/02: Eagles Fun Run & Fitness Day

Daily Update 5/8

Hi Parents!

Tonight's math homework is page 517.  We're working on relating fractions and decimals to money. If your child struggles, please encourage him/her to watch the video on ThinkCentral, section 9.4. Some students were able to finish their assigned homework in class, but they were asked to bring their textbook home anyway and to explain today's lesson to a parent.  We will be finishing up this chapter on Thursday, will have a review next Monday, and then a test on Tuesday.

In Language Arts, students are reading a fictional novel and are responsible for reading their assigned pages and completing two reading group "jobs" per week to present to their group.  Each job is designed to help students practice specific reading comprehension skills, so weekly reading grades are based upon the quality of each student's work. While ample time is given in class for students to read and complete their jobs, students may occasionally be asked to bring their work home if they are behind.  Additionally, students are working on planning and writing a 5 paragraph report related to their "Zombie" Problem-based learning project.

Finally, in Science, we're beginning a unit that focuses on the relationship between the sun, moon, and Earth.  Students will be learning about the phases of the moon, the seasons, and about how and why shadows move and change through the day.

Please note the following upcoming events:

5/11: Last day for CLDS School Board Nominations
5/12: Last day for GOTR Pet Supply Drive
5/15: Muffins with Mom (before school)
5/15-5/19: Book Fair BOGO
5/29: Memorial Day Holiday – no school

Have a wonderful evening!
